also known as: manual installation lift, duct lift

Manual material lift rental (manual installation lift, duct lift) at RK Rental: Sumner 2000 from our own fleet, lifting height 7.7 m, weight 190 kg. The model has a data sheet with specifications, a working range chart and a dimensional drawing. We arrange delivery to Bydgoszcz, Toruń, Włocławek, Poznań, Świecie and everywhere in Poland.

Fleet and prices as of

Rental from PLN 70 + VAT per day. A day costs PLN 120–150 for a rental of 1–3 days, PLN 100 up to 7 days, PLN 90 up to 14 days and PLN 70 over 14 days.

A material lift, also called an installation lift, is a hand-operated machine with a mast and forks that raises a load up to the ceiling and holds it there until the installers fix it in place. At RK Rental we rent the Sumner 2000 manual material lift (6 units in our fleet): a hand winch lifts up to 300 kg to a height of up to 7.7 m, the lift weighs 190 kg and is 0.79 m wide when stowed, so it goes through a doorway and fits in a van.

It works without power or fuel and needs neither a UDT licence nor UDT inspections. It does not lift people: it is not an aerial work platform. If the installer also has to work at height, we will add a vertical mast lift or a scissor lift to the order.

What is a material lift (installation lift) used for?

For raising to the ceiling whatever cannot safely be carried up a ladder: ventilation ducts, pipes, cable trays, air conditioning units, air handling units, beams, profiles and boards. The load is placed on the forks, winched up to the installation height, and the lift holds it still while the installers fit the hangers. One person does what used to take two or three people and a scaffold.

It works in halls, warehouses, shops, office buildings and on fit-out sites: anywhere the floor is level and firm. It is used by HVAC, plumbing and electrical contractors, by crews installing suspended ceilings and fire protection systems, and by service teams replacing units below the ceiling.

How does the Sumner 2000 manual lift work?

The load is placed on the forks from a height of just 0.15 m and winched by hand to a height of up to 7.7 m (with the forks inverted; with the forks down, up to 7.1 m). The capacity is 300 kg with the load centre 0.36 m from the rear edge of the forks; the further out the load centre, the lower the permitted weight. The forks are pinned in place without tools, and with extensions they reach 1.07 m, which helps with long items.

In the working position the lift is 1.85 m long and 1.88 m wide on its extended stabiliser legs, and the ground clearance is only 6.4 cm, so the floor must be level and firm. All mechanisms are hand-operated: there is no battery to charge and no exhaust.

Do I need a UDT licence for a material lift?

No. A manual material lift is not a mobile elevating work platform and is not subject to technical supervision: operating it requires neither a UDT qualification certificate nor UDT inspections (UDT is the Polish Office of Technical Inspection), because all of its mechanisms are hand-operated. A workplace briefing and the manufacturer's instructions are enough: load on the forks, stabiliser legs extended, nobody under the load.

If the installer has to work at height at the same time, a separate aerial work platform for people is needed (a vertical mast lift or a scissor lift), and operating it on your own requires a UDT licence. We rent both kinds of machine together and run UDT training courses.

How do I transport a material lift to the job?

When stowed, the Sumner 2000 measures 0.86 × 0.79 × 1.93 m and weighs 190 kg, so it goes through a standard 0.9 m doorway, into a lift and into a van or onto a trailer; two people can load it without a ramp. On site you wheel it along the corridor to the work point and only then extend the stabiliser legs.

You can collect it yourself from our base in Brzoza near Bydgoszcz or order transport: delivery and collection are priced by distance, together with the rental. For a larger installation job you can rent several units at once.

Material lifts (manual installation lifts): frequently asked questions

How do I lift a ventilation duct or a pipe up to the ceiling?

To lift and hold the load, use the Sumner 2000 manual material lift: 300 kg on the forks, up to 7.7 m, no power supply needed. If the installer also has to work at height, you will additionally need an aerial work platform for people, such as a vertical mast lift or a scissor lift.

Can a material lift be used to lift people?

No. The Sumner 2000 is a material lift, not an aerial work platform, and the manufacturer prohibits lifting people with it. For working at height we rent vertical mast lifts and scissor lifts.

How much can a material lift carry and how high does it reach?

The Sumner 2000 lifts up to 300 kg to a height of 7.7 m (forks inverted) or 7.1 m (forks down). The full capacity applies to a load centre 0.36 m from the rear edge of the forks; the further from the mast, the less you may lift.

Will a manual material lift go through a doorway?

Yes. When stowed it is 0.79 m wide and 1.93 m high, so it goes through a standard 0.9 m doorway, into a lift and into a van. It weighs 190 kg.

Do I need a UDT licence to operate a material lift?

No. A manual material lift needs neither a UDT licence nor UDT inspections, because all of its mechanisms are hand-operated. A UDT licence is only needed for the self-propelled aerial work platform that takes the installer up to the work point.
