A diesel telescopic boom lift is the cherry picker (aerial work platform, MEWP) with the greatest straight-line reach: its extending telescopic boom reaches high and far, which makes it well suited to façades, steel structures and work at great heights.
What are telescopic boom lifts used for?
A straight, extending telescopic boom gives maximum reach vertically and in a straight line, letting you get high up and far from the machine when there are no obstacles beneath the work point. It is the choice for work on façades, steel structures, halls, towers and anywhere a long, straight reach matters.
A 4×4 rough terrain chassis lets it work on construction sites and rough ground without setting up outriggers: the machine stands on its wheels, and the largest models (such as the JLG 1350SJP and Genie SX-180) extend their axles before work. Its large working height gives access to places that smaller machines cannot reach.
Telescopic or articulating boom lift: which should I choose?
A telescopic boom lift reaches further and higher in a straight line, but is less able to get around obstacles. An articulating boom lift, with its jointed arm, is better at taking the basket “up and over” an obstacle and out to the side. If the path to the work point is clear, choose a telescopic boom lift; if you need to get around something, choose an articulating one.
When choosing, what counts is the working height and side reach at the work point, and the capacity in that zone. We will help you choose a machine for your specific task.

Diesel telescopic boom lifts: frequently asked questions
How far can a telescopic boom lift reach?
Telescopic boom lifts offer the greatest straight-line reach of all boom lifts, both vertically and horizontally. The exact reach depends on the model; at maximum outreach the basket capacity is lower.
When is a telescopic boom lift better than an articulating one?
When there are no obstacles beneath the work point and maximum straight-line reach and height matter, a telescopic boom lift will reach further. When you need to get around an obstacle and reach sideways, an articulating boom lift is the better choice.
Can a telescopic boom lift work on rough terrain?
Yes. These are 4×4 rough terrain machines designed for work on unpaved construction sites. They work on their wheels, without outriggers, so the ground must be load-bearing and the machine's tilt within the limits on the model's spec sheet; the largest models extend their axles for stability.
Do you rent electric telescopic boom lifts?
We do not rent electric telescopic boom lifts: our telescopic boom lifts are diesel. For work without exhaust fumes we rent electric articulating boom lifts, whose arm has an extending telescope: 19 models with a working height from 10.89 m to 20.39 m.
Is a telescopic cherry picker the same as a telescopic boom lift?
Yes. “Cherry picker” is the everyday name for a boom-type aerial work platform (MEWP): a telescopic cherry picker and a telescopic boom lift are the same machine. At RK Rental you will find it in the category “Diesel telescopic boom lifts”: every model has a data sheet with specifications and dimensions, and we arrange delivery.
