An electric articulating boom lift is a cherry picker (aerial work platform, MEWP) that lets you reach “up and over” an obstacle, out to the side and into hard-to-reach places. Its battery drive means it works quietly and with zero emissions, including indoors.
What are electric articulating boom lifts used for?
The articulating boom consists of several sections linked by joints, so the basket can be taken up and over an obstacle such as scaffolding, a machine or an already installed structure, and reach out sideways where you cannot drive directly beneath the work point. It is the solution for façade work, installing building services, and maintenance and servicing in places that are difficult to access.
The electric version, with battery drive and non-marking tyres, is suitable for work inside halls, retail premises and production facilities: it produces no exhaust fumes, runs quietly and can work in buildings that remain in use.
Why does horizontal outreach matter most on an articulating boom lift?
Whether the machine reaches where you need it depends not only on working height but above all on horizontal outreach, meaning how far out horizontally the basket reaches from the machine. Articulating boom lifts usually reach “up and over” obstacles better than telescopic boom lifts, so they work well where there is an obstacle beneath the work point.

Electric articulating boom lifts: frequently asked questions
What is the difference between an articulating and a telescopic boom lift?
An articulating boom lift has a jointed arm and is better at reaching “up and over” obstacles and out to the side into hard-to-reach places. A telescopic boom lift extends in a straight line and reaches further and higher, but is less able to get around obstacles. Choose an articulating boom lift where you need to get around something.
Can an electric articulating boom lift be used indoors?
Yes. Its battery drive is emission-free and quiet, and the non-marking tyres do not damage the floor, so the machine can work inside halls and buildings that remain in use. It needs firm, level ground.
How much horizontal outreach can I expect?
Horizontal outreach depends on the model and increases with the size of the machine, from a few metres on smaller models to a dozen or so metres on larger articulating boom lifts. Capacity decreases at maximum outreach, so we select the machine for your specific task.
Is a cherry picker the same as an electric articulating boom lift?
Yes. “Cherry picker” is the everyday name for a boom-type aerial work platform (MEWP): a cherry picker and an electric articulating boom lift are the same machine. You will also see the name “articulating telescopic boom lift”: the articulating arm has an extending telescope, so it is the same group of machines.
