Safe purchase of a used aerial lift

You buy a machine, not trouble.

At RK Rental you buy a used cherry picker (aerial work platform, MEWP), scissor lift or telehandler from one of two sources. The first is our rental fleet: machines we bought ourselves for rental, under the care of our maintenance technicians from the start, with regular inspections and a service history. You can rent such a machine, try it at work and buy it, and part of the rental cost can be deducted from the purchase price. The second is machines imported to order from stock in Europe: 150 units with specifications and a net price in zloty, including 104 from 2019 or newer (we send photos of the chosen machine on request, together with the quote). They are not in our yard but come to Brzoza after you order (2–3 weeks from the order, 20% deposit when you place the order), and before collection they go through an inspection and a UDT inspection (UDT is the Polish Office of Technical Inspection) in our workshop; you receive them with documentation and a calculated service life, and UDT acceptance is included in the price: we see the case through to a decision issued in your name. Machines from both sources come with a warranty (1 month included in the price, up to 3 months with a service package), and after the purchase we stay with them: operator training, mobile service and parts.

Where do our used machines come from?

What decides the safety of a purchase is first of all where the machine comes from and who looked after it. We have two routes, and in both you know what you are buying.

We know them from day one

Machines from our rental fleet

We bought them ourselves, for rental. They work for customers all the time, so we look after them in our own interest: a lift that breaks down on a customer's site costs us more than an inspection done on time. That is why a well-maintained machine goes on sale, not one that has been run into the ground.

  • The permanent care of our experienced maintenance technicians, the same ones who service customers' machines.
  • Regular inspections throughout its time in rental.
  • The service history of the machine: it is known what was done and when.
  • Buy the rented machine: you work with it on your own site, you decide after the trial, and part of the rental costs can be deducted from the price.
  • Warranty: 1 month included in the price, up to 3 months with a service package.

Machines imported to order

Do you need a specific model, a recent year of manufacture or a machine with low operating hours? We import it to order from stock in Europe. The machine is held by our partner, not in our yard in Brzoza, and comes to us after your order (2–3 weeks from the order). This way we do not tie up capital in stock, which shows in the price. There are 150 machines on the list today: 104 from 2019 or newer and 93 with up to 1,000 operating hours.

  • Warranty: 1 month included in the price, up to 3 months with a service package, and RK Rental service care.
  • After the order: 20% deposit when you place the order, transport to Brzoza, inspection, battery test and UDT inspection in our workshop; all included in the price of the machine.
  • Test results and documentation: CE declaration of conformity, manual, calculated service life.
  • UDT acceptance included: we prepare the machine and the documents for the inspection, and you receive the decision permitting operation in your company's name.
  • Specifications and the net price in zloty for every machine; we send photos of the chosen machine on request, together with the quote.

How do we reduce the risk when you buy a used machine?

A buyer of a used lift usually worries about seven things. We have a concrete answer to each. A summary below, details further down.

Concern 1 of 7

How do I know exactly what I am buying?

From the list and from the quote. Each of the 150 machines on the list has a reference number, specifications and a net price in zloty, and we send photos of that exact machine on request, together with the quote. For 149 machines we give the year of manufacture and operating hours, the two figures that say the most about wear. You can also see a machine from our rental fleet in person: make an appointment and we will show it to you at our site in Brzoza near Bydgoszcz.

  • You look at the machine you are buying: the photos in the quote show that exact unit, not a model from the manufacturer's catalogue.
  • Half of the machines with a stated year of manufacture are from 2021 or newer.
  • The reference number RK-U-… identifies the unit unambiguously. You ask by it and we prepare the quote by it.
  • Net and gross price in zloty, converted at the NBP (National Bank of Poland) rate at every update of the list.

Concern 2 of 7

Can I try the machine before I buy it?

Yes. You rent a machine from our rental fleet before you buy it: you take it to your site or hall and check on your own task whether it reaches where it should, whether it fits through the gate, whether the battery lasts a shift. You decide after working with it, not after looking at photos.

Buy the rented machine

You rent a lift from our rental fleet, work with it on your own site, and if it proves itself, you buy that very machine, and part of the rental cost can be deducted from the purchase price. We agree the details in the quote.

Ask about a machine from the rental fleet

With a machine imported to order you try the same model from the rental fleet. We have 15 models from the list in it (altogether 24 machines for sale). This way you learn the reach, dimensions and comfort of the model, and we confirm the condition of the unit that will arrive separately.

Rental is charged according to the price list, like any other. A few days of rental cost a fraction of the price of a machine, and protect against the most expensive mistake: buying a lift that does not suit the work.

Rent, try, buy

You can first rent a machine from our fleet and try it on your own site, then buy it, with the possibility of deducting part of the rental costs from the price. Choose the type of machine:

Concern 3 of 7

How do I know what condition this unit is in?

We know the machines from our rental fleet best, because we maintain them ourselves. From the purchase they are looked after by our maintenance technicians: regular inspections, repairs as needed, a service history. Ask about it before you buy and we will tell you what was done and when.

With a machine imported to order, before you pay anything we confirm that it is available and what condition it is in. Ask about everything that raises doubts: batteries, tyres, leaks, error codes, the full set of documents. We service lifts of these brands every day, so we know what to ask and where to look.

The price of the machine includes its preparation and inspection by our service team.

Batteries: a condition report on request

On request we will run a capacity test of the batteries and prepare a report on their condition: the measured capacity in ampere-hours and as a percentage of the rated capacity. We can also regenerate a traction battery made of 2 V cells. For Trojan-type monobloc batteries we prepare the report only, so you know what condition they are in and what to expect in operation. When you buy a machine from us, we carry out the test with the report at no extra charge; regeneration is quoted in the offer.

Why it matters: from our experience even a new battery can have only about half of its capacity after delivery, and with a used one the voltage on a voltmeter says little about how long it will last at work.

How we test batteries

Below you will find a checklist: 12 things to check on every used machine, including one bought elsewhere.

What to ask before buying

  • Is the machine still available and when can it arrive?
  • How many operating hours does it have and what year is it?
  • Which documents come with it: declaration of conformity, manual, service history?
  • What condition are the batteries, or the engine, tyres and hydraulics in?
  • Does the controller show error codes?
  • How much does transport to my address cost?

Concern 4 of 7

How much will I really pay?

The price is in the quote, and the net and gross price is also on the card of each machine. The cheapest costs PLN 20,100 net, and half of the machines cost up to PLN 121,700 net. We quote transport separately, before you buy: it depends on the distance and the size of the machine.

Before you decide you receive a written quote, under a link and ready to save as a PDF. It puts the machine, price, transport, lead time, payment and warranty in one place, so you agree nothing “on a handshake”.

  • You buy on a VAT invoice; we always give the gross price next to the net.
  • Financing the purchase with leasing? Say so in your enquiry and we will take it into account in the quote.
  • Costs after the purchase that are worth knowing in advance: the annual UDT inspection, maintenance inspections during the year, and in electric machines, in time, replacement of the batteries. Their condition will be shown by a capacity test with a report.

What the written quote contains

  • The machine with photos of the unit and its specifications
  • Net and gross price
  • Transport to the address you give
  • Lead time
  • Payment method and deadline
  • Warranty terms
  • UDT acceptance included in the price of the machine
  • Offer validity date and an order button

Concern 5 of 7

Can I work legally on a used lift straight away?

Only after the UDT decision. Every travelling mobile elevating work platform (that is a cherry picker, a scissor lift) is subject to technical supervision in its full form. The new owner registers the machine with the Office of Technical Inspection (UDT), the inspector carries out the inspection and issues a decision permitting operation. It is the same with a telehandler and a forklift truck with an operator's seat. They are also subject to full supervision, with a periodic inspection every year.

  1. 1

    Application to UDT

A written application to the competent regional UDT branch, with documentation in Polish, including the EC declaration of conformity and the operating manual with diagrams. For a machine previously registered at another UDT branch, a copy of the last report and decision is attached.

  2. 2

    Acceptance inspection

The inspector checks the documents, the markings and the technical condition of the machine and carries out functional tests. A maintenance technician and an operator holding qualification certificates are present at the inspection.

  3. 3

    Decision permitting operation

Only from this point may the machine work. UDT issues it to the buyer as the new user of the equipment. We prepare the application and the documents together with you, included in the price of the machine.

  4. 4

    Ongoing obligations

Maintenance inspections at the intervals in the manufacturer's manual (every 30 days where the manual gives none), with an entry in the maintenance log, plus an annual periodic UDT inspection and a record of the machine's operating history. Where the service life of the machine is not known, the owner has to determine it.

Basis: the Technical Supervision Act and the regulation of the Minister of Entrepreneurship and Technology of 30 October 2018 (Journal of Laws 2018, item 2176), § 7, § 9 and annexes 1 and 2.

How we help

  • You receive a machine imported to order with its test results, documentation, CE declaration of conformity and a calculated service life
  • UDT acceptance included in the price of the machine: we prepare the machine and the documents for the inspection and see the case through to a decision issued in your name
  • We carry out maintenance inspections at your site, with an entry in the maintenance log
  • We calculate the service life and reconstruct the operating history where records are missing
  • We train operators for the exam before the UDT examination board

UDT acceptance for a machine bought from us is included in the price; we put the remaining scope in the quote. Details: UDT maintenance inspections, service life of a lift.

Concern 6 of 7

What if something breaks after the purchase?

You call the service that repairs such machines every day, the same one that maintains our rental fleet. The RK Rental mobile service travels to a construction site or to your company, and you order parts for lifts and telehandlers in our online shop.

Warranty on used machines

1 month included in the price

Every used machine, from our rental fleet and imported to order, has a warranty of 1 month on the drive, hydraulics and controls (excluding batteries and wear parts) included in the price. When you buy it with a service package, the warranty lasts up to 3 months. We put the scope and conditions in the quote. See the service packages

  • Mobile service: mechanical, hydraulic and electrical work at the customer's site; larger repairs in our workshop.
  • Parts: the online shop and an enquiry by part number.
  • Service packages: annual care for the machine: maintenance inspections on time, and in the higher packages also preparation for the UDT inspection and the service life.
  • Error codes: a database of JLG, Genie, Haulotte and Zoomlion codes. You can check a message before you call.

Concern 7 of 7

Who can operate the lift after the purchase?

An operator with a UDT qualification certificate. If your people do not have one, we will train them: the course for travelling mobile elevating work platforms covers theory and practice on our equipment and ends with an exam before a UDT examination board. The course costs PLN 750 per person. The courses are taught in Polish.

Buying a telehandler or a forklift truck? We run courses for those machines too. UDT courses: dates and registration.

Do you already have a machine in mind?

Give us the reference number from the card (RK-U-…) and we will confirm availability and condition, calculate transport and send a written quote.

What should you look for when inspecting a used aerial lift?

Here are 12 points a service technician starts with when inspecting a used machine. The list is useful for every purchase, also when you buy elsewhere.

Documents and machine identity

  1. 1Data plate: manufacturer, type, serial number, year of manufacture and capacity matching the documents and the quote.
  2. 2Documents: EC declaration of conformity and operating manual in Polish; for a machine that previously worked in Poland, also the UDT inspection book and the maintenance log.
  3. 3Operating hours: wear on pins, joysticks and the platform floor should match the reading of the hour meter.

Structure and hydraulics

  1. 4Load-bearing structure: cracked welds, deformation, corrosion and signs of welding repairs on the boom or scissor arms, the chassis and the platform mounting.
  2. 5Play: pins and bushes of the joints, the slew ring, the sliding pads of a telescopic boom.
  3. 6Hydraulics: leaks on cylinders, hoses and the valve block; a raised platform must not drift down on its own.

Power and drive

  1. 7Batteries (electric machines): date of manufacture, condition of terminals and cases, the charger; how much they really deliver only a capacity test will show. Replacing a full set is one of the larger costs.
  2. 8Engine (diesel machines): cold start, smoke, leaks, the cooling system.
  3. 9Wheels and drive: tyres with no missing chunks or cracks, brakes, and on rough terrain machines the 4×4 drive and the oscillating axle.

Safety devices and controls

  1. 10Safety devices: tilt sensor, platform load sensing, limit switches, emergency lowering and emergency stops at both control panels.
  2. 11Controls: every movement from the platform and from the ground, smooth, with no error codes on the display.
  3. 12Platform or deck: guardrails, gate, harness anchor points, floor, deck extension.

Nobody to send for the inspection? Call us and we will tell you what to look at first on a given model.

How does buying a used aerial lift work, step by step?

  1. 1

    You choose a machine

From the list of machines imported to order from stock in Europe (2–3 weeks from the order), from the machines in our rental fleet, or you describe the task: height, place of work, ground, budget. We will advise on a model, also when renting or a new machine is the better choice.

  2. 2

    We confirm the unit

For a machine from our rental fleet we know the service history and you can rent it on trial. An imported machine is held by a partner in Europe: we confirm availability, condition and documents before you pay anything.

  3. 3

    You receive a written quote

The machine, net and gross price, transport, lead time, payment and warranty in one document: under a link, for printing or saving as a PDF.

  4. 4

    You order

With a click in the quote or by telephone. For an imported machine: 20% deposit when you place the order, then transport to Brzoza, inspection, battery test and UDT inspection in our workshop and collection in Brzoza or delivery to the address you give. We issue a VAT invoice; if you finance the purchase with leasing, we take that into account in the quote. An indicative instalment and a calculator are on the page of each model, and we pass the enquiry with the chosen terms to the leasing company.

  5. 5

    We arrange transport

The machine goes to the address you give anywhere in Poland. You know the cost of transport before you buy.

  6. 6

    UDT, training and service

UDT acceptance is included in the price of the machine: we prepare it and the documents and see it through to a decision issued in your name. We train operators and stay on as your service provider, with parts.

Branding when you buy

Can you brand a machine I buy with my company logo?

A machine with your company logo. Before handover we can brand a machine you buy from us, used or new, with your company logo. Send us the logo or a ready sticker design and we take care of the rest: we order the stickers and apply them in our workshop. We have the experience, because this is how we mark the machines in our own rental fleet. We agree the price individually, depending on the number and size of the stickers.

  • What to send us

Your company logo, ideally as a vector file (PDF, SVG, EPS or AI), or a ready sticker design. Plain lettering is also enough, for example a telephone number or company name, cut out of vinyl along the outline of the letters, with no background.

  • No design yet?

The sticker design will be prepared by a graphic designer at the advertising company we work with. What goes where and how large, we agree with you before we order the stickers.

  • Where we apply them

On free, smooth surfaces: the platform guards, the boom or the scissor arms and the chassis. We apply the stickers to clean, undamaged paint. If the paint needs touching up in the place you choose, we will tell you when we quote.

  • What we never cover

Warning labels and the manufacturer's instructions, the data plate, the platform capacity marking or the UDT markings. They must stay visible and legible.

The price of branding is agreed individually and we give it in the offer together with the machine. We apply the stickers before handover, so the machine arrives at your site already marked.

Which pays off more: used, new or rental?

We sell used and new machines, and we rent lifts of the same brands, so we have no reason to push you towards one solution. What decides is how often the machine will work.

Regular work, sensible budget

Aerial lift rental

Buying a used aerial lift: frequently asked questions

Is buying a used aerial lift safe?

Yes, provided you know where the machine comes from, what condition it is in and what costs follow the purchase. At RK Rental you buy a machine from our rental fleet (with a service history, after regular inspections, with the option to rent it before you buy) or a machine imported to order from stock in Europe: with documentation, a calculated service life and an inspection and a UDT inspection in Brzoza before collection, all included in the price. In both cases you receive a written quote and a warranty (1 month included in the price, up to 3 months with a service package). After the purchase you have service and parts.

Where do the used aerial lifts at RK Rental come from?

From two sources. The first is our rental fleet: machines bought for rental, under the care of our maintenance technicians from the start, with regular inspections and a service history. The second is machines imported to order from stock in Europe. There are 150 on the list, including 104 from 2019 or newer and 93 with up to 1,000 operating hours (as of 11 October 2026). They are not in our yard: they come to Brzoza after you order (2–3 weeks from the order) and before collection they go through an inspection and a UDT inspection in our workshop.

Does a used aerial lift come with a warranty and for how long?

Yes. Every used machine has a warranty of 1 month included in the price, covering the drive, hydraulics and controls (excluding batteries and wear parts); when you buy it with a service package, the warranty lasts up to 3 months. This applies to machines from our rental fleet and to machines imported to order. We put the scope and conditions in writing in the quote, so you know them before you order.

Does the price of a used aerial lift include preparing and checking the machine?

Yes. The price of a used machine includes its preparation and inspection by the RK Rental service team. Machines from our rental fleet are under the care of our maintenance technicians all the time, and for a machine imported to order we confirm its condition before you pay anything.

Will you check the batteries of a used aerial lift before I buy?

Yes. From our experience even a new battery can have only about half of its capacity after delivery, so a test says more than a voltage reading.

What should I look for when buying a used aerial lift?

At four areas: documents and the data plate (serial number, declaration of conformity, manual in Polish), structure and hydraulics (cracks, play, leaks), power and drive (batteries or engine, tyres) and safety devices and controls (tilt sensor, load sensing, emergency lowering, error codes). The full list of 12 points is on this page.

Does a used aerial lift have to be registered with UDT?

Yes. Travelling mobile elevating work platforms are subject to technical supervision: the new owner registers the machine with a UDT branch, and it may only work after the inspection and a decision permitting operation. After that an annual periodic UDT inspection applies, together with maintenance inspections at the intervals in the manufacturer's manual and, where the manual gives none, every 30 days (regulation of 30 October 2018, Journal of Laws 2018, item 2176). For a machine bought from RK Rental the UDT acceptance is included in the price: we prepare the machine and the documents and see the case through to a decision issued in the buyer's name.

Can I test an aerial lift before buying?

Yes. You can rent a machine from our rental fleet and try it on your own task before you buy it, and part of the rental cost can be deducted from the purchase price. With a machine imported to order you rent the same model. This applies to 15 models on the list, including Genie GS-2646, Genie GS-4390 RT and Genie S-85. Rental is charged according to the price list.

Can I buy a machine that I rent from you?

Yes, this is our “Buy the rented machine” scheme. If a lift from the RK Rental rental fleet proves itself in your work, you can buy it from us, and part of the rental cost can be deducted from the purchase price. We agree the details in the quote.

How much does a used aerial lift cost?

Used machines on the RK Rental list start from PLN 20,100 net, and half of them cost up to PLN 121,700 net (as of 11 October 2026). The price depends on the type of machine, the working height, the year of manufacture and the operating hours; we quote transport separately.

Do you deliver the machine I buy?

Yes, we arrange transport to the address you give anywhere in Poland. The cost depends on the distance and the size of the machine and is given before you buy.

Can you brand a machine I buy with my company logo?

Yes. We brand a machine bought from RK Rental, used or new, before handover in our workshop; this is also how we mark the machines in our own rental fleet. Send us the logo (ideally as a vector file) or a ready sticker design. It can also be plain lettering, for example a telephone number cut out of vinyl along the outline. If you do not have a design, a graphic designer at the advertising company we work with will prepare it. We agree the places and the size of the stickers with you. We do not cover warning labels, the data plate, the platform capacity marking or the UDT markings. We agree the price individually and give it in the offer.

Who services the lift after I buy it?

RK Rental: the same maintenance technicians who look after our rental fleet every day. Our mobile service travels to the machine on a construction site or to your company, carries out repairs, maintenance inspections and preparation for UDT inspections, and you order parts in our online shop. Service packages are available for continuous care.

Does the operator of a used aerial lift need a licence?

Yes, a UDT qualification certificate for travelling mobile elevating work platforms. RK Rental runs courses ending with an exam before a UDT examination board; the course for platforms costs PLN 750 per person. The courses are taught in Polish.
