What is the Sumner 2000 used for?
The Sumner 2000 is a manual material lift with a mast, designed for one job: to lift a heavy or awkward item safely up to the ceiling and hold it in place during installation. Ventilation, air-conditioning and plumbing installers use it to lift ducts, pipes, cable trays and air-conditioning units. It is not an aerial work platform or MEWP: lifting people with it is prohibited.
Operation is fully manual, so the lift works indoors and outdoors without a socket, battery or exhaust fumes. The 0.55 × 0.71 m forks pick up a load from as low as 0.15 m; with the forks pointing down they raise it to 7.1 m, and when inverted, to 7.7 m. The forks are attached with pins without tools, and with extensions their length increases to 1.07 m, which makes it easier to lift long items.
When choosing, the space under the base matters: in the working position the lift is 1.85 m long and 1.88 m wide on its stabilising legs, and the ground clearance is only 6.4 cm, so the floor should be level and firm. The full 300 kg capacity applies to a load whose centre of gravity is 0.36 m from the rear edge of the forks; the further away it is, the lower the permissible weight.
