A diesel articulating boom lift is a 4×4 rough terrain cherry picker (aerial work platform, MEWP) with large working heights, built for outdoor work on construction sites and projects where you need to reach high and out to the side, over an obstacle.
What are diesel articulating boom lifts used for?
A rough terrain articulating boom lift combines a large working height (from a dozen or so to more than forty metres) with the ability to take the basket over an obstacle and reach out to the side. Its 4×4 drive and oscillating axle let it work on unpaved, uneven ground. It is the machine for façade work, building maintenance, installation, work on structures and renovation.
Thanks to its side reach, an articulating boom lift gets to places where the machine cannot be positioned directly beneath the work point, for example over a row of machines, an excavation, a canopy roof or an installed structure.
When should I choose a diesel articulating boom lift?
Choose one when the work is outdoors, the ground is unpaved and you need great height and “up and over” reach. If the work is inside a building, the electric version will do the job; if you need to reach very far in a straight line, consider a telescopic boom lift.
A safety harness with a lanyard is mandatory on articulating boom lifts. We will match the machine to the height, outreach and terrain of your job.

How high can diesel articulating boom lifts reach?
Our rental range includes articulating boom lifts from a dozen or so metres of working height to over 40 m. For working height, apply the “+2 m” rule: a person works about two metres above the basket floor.
Can a diesel articulating boom lift handle rough terrain?
Yes. These are 4×4 rough terrain machines with an oscillating axle and off-road tyres, designed for unpaved, uneven ground. For work at height, the machine is stabilised in line with its levelling system.
When should I choose an articulating boom lift and when a telescopic one?
Choose an articulating boom lift when you need to get around an obstacle and reach sideways into a hard-to-access spot. Choose a telescopic boom lift when maximum straight-line reach and height matter most. Describe the job and we will help you choose.
Is a rough terrain cherry picker the same as a diesel articulating boom lift?
Yes. “Cherry picker” is the everyday name for a boom-type aerial work platform (MEWP): a rough terrain cherry picker and a diesel articulating boom lift are the same machine. You will also see the name “articulating telescopic boom lift”: the articulating arm has an extending telescope, so it is the same group of machines.
