What is the Manitou MT 1440 SLT used for?
The Manitou MT 1440 SLT is a mid-height telehandler, known on site as a ‘teleporter’ or simply a ‘Manitou’. The carriage with 1,200 mm forks lifts loads to 13.6 m, and at maximum lift the boom still reaches 1.5 m in front of the machine. A telehandler of this class unloads pallets from lorries, lifts blocks, steel and formwork elements onto floor slabs, and with a bucket handles bulk materials with a breakout force of 7,000 daN.
The 101 hp Perkins 1104D-44 TA engine, a torque converter transmission with four gears in each direction and 4×4 drive give good traction on an unpaved site, and 0.48 m of ground clearance makes it easier to cross ruts. The machine weighs 11,227 kg, is 2.61 m high and takes up 3.82 m in width with the outriggers lowered; these values must be checked before driving between scaffolding or through a gateway.
When choosing, the key is the load chart to EN 1459: the full 4,000 kg applies at short reach, and the permissible load decreases as the boom extends. Oil-immersed multi-disc brakes on both axles and a drawbar pull of 10,700 daN are useful when working with heavy loads on slopes. When material needs to be placed higher or further out, the taller MT 1740 SLT model will be a better choice.
