What is the JCB 540-180 used for?
The JCB 540-180 is a telehandler (colloquially a ‘teleporter’) from the group of high-lift machines with a 4 t capacity, built for work on construction sites. It lifts pallets of blocks, reinforcement and roofing materials onto floor slabs, unloads lorries and carries loads across unmade ground. Rough-terrain tyres, 0.40 m of ground clearance and a travel speed of up to 29 km/h allow it to move efficiently between distant areas of the site.
The machine reaches its full 17.51 m height and 13.34 m outreach with the outriggers lowered; once deployed, they take up a width of 3.39 m, so space must be allowed for this next to the building wall. Without outriggers, reach drops to 12.54 m vertically and 10.10 m horizontally. A 1,000 kg load can be placed 11.72 m from the machine on outriggers and 6.22 m without them.
When choosing, check site access: the telehandler weighs 11,380 kg, is 2.35 m wide and 2.59 m high, and its outer turning radius at the tyres is 3.75 m. Crab steer makes it easier to position the machine along walls and to manoeuvre between stockpiles of material. Compared with lower telehandlers, the JCB 540-180 can serve a taller building from a single position, without frequent repositioning.
