What is the Manitou MT 1740 SLT used for?
The MT 1740 SLT is one of the taller telehandlers in the Manitou range, designed for sites where loads have to be placed on high floor slabs, the roofs of industrial buildings or the decks of façade scaffolding. The boom raises the carriage to 16.65 m and reaches 12.35 m horizontally, so a pallet can be set down well back from the edge of an excavation or over an obstacle. The 1,200 × 125 × 50 mm forks and a carriage with a 124° rotation range handle pallets, reinforcing steel and lighter precast elements.
4×4 drive, 0.48 m of ground clearance, a 45.5° ramp angle and a 50° departure angle allow the machine to cross embankments and churned-up construction sites. Hydraulic outriggers (3.82 m spread) and ±7° frame levelling make it possible to work on uneven ground. This telehandler is 2.42 m wide and 2.60 m high (2.785 m with the warning beacon) and weighs 11,220 kg; these figures are worth checking before driving through a door or onto a floor slab.
The key factor when choosing is the load chart to EN 1459: the full 4,000 kg applies at short outreach, while at maximum outreach on outriggers the spec sheet gives a tipping load of 957 kg; this is the stability limit, and the permitted load in that position is read from the load chart. The 100 hp Perkins 1104C-44 Turbo engine and 9,700 daN of drawbar pull provide reserve power when travelling around the site. Where height is not critical, the lower MT 1440 SLT model is often sufficient.
- Lifting materials onto roofs
- Supplying façade scaffolding
- Placing loads over an excavation
- Installing light precast elements
- Unloading deliveries on site
- Working on a churned-up site
