The information below is diagnostic and indicative. Repairs, calibrations and clearing of fault codes are carried out by a qualified service technician, according to the manual for the specific serial number of the machine. A machine with an active fault code must not be used until the cause has been removed.

Most common Haulotte Optimum 8 faults
Platform will not raise or lower
- Likely cause
- Discharged battery, an active fault code blocking the function, platform overload or a faulty valve or solenoid valve of the pump.
- Diagnosis / how to fix it
- Check the battery voltage, read the fault code and remove any excess load from the platform.
Machine will not drive
- Likely cause
- Joystick not in neutral at start-up, an active tilt sensor blocking driving at height, or a controller communication error.
- Diagnosis / how to fix it
- Set the joystick to neutral, lower the platform, level the machine and read the fault code.
Tilt alarm
- Likely cause
- Working on uneven ground, or a mis-adjusted or damaged tilt sensor.
- Diagnosis / how to fix it
- Place the machine on level ground; if the alarm does not clear, a service technician calibrates or replaces the sensor.
Platform overload
- Likely cause
- Capacity exceeded or a load sensor out of calibration.
- Diagnosis / how to fix it
- Remove the excess load; if the error remains, the load cell must be calibrated at a service centre.
Weak or short run time on the battery
- Likely cause
- Sulphated or worn cells, a faulty charger, corroded or loose terminals.
- Diagnosis / how to fix it
- Measure the cell voltages, check the charger and terminals and replace the batteries if necessary.
Will not extend to full height (pothole protection)
- Likely cause
- The pothole protection bars have not deployed, or the deployment sensor is damaged.
- Diagnosis / how to fix it
- Inspect the pothole protection mechanism and its sensors.
No control from the upper control box
- Likely cause
- Loss of communication between the platform and the chassis: a chafed cable, corroded connectors or a faulty controller.
- Diagnosis / how to fix it
- Test from the lower control box and check the coiled cable and the connectors.
Soft hydraulics, or the platform slowly descends
- Likely cause
- Worn cylinder seals, air in the system, contaminated oil or a leaking holding valve.
- Diagnosis / how to fix it
- Check the oil level and condition and the tightness of the system; repair at a service centre.
Haulotte Optimum 8 error codes: 59 codes explained
Newer Haulotte machines (HA/HT series on a CANbus) use codes in the format Fxx.yy shown on the lower control box display (Activ'Screen); the letter next to the code is the fault type: A = active, D = detected. Older electric scissor lifts (Compact, Optimum) have a ZAPI controller and AL/EP codes.
Below you see the code and the original manufacturer's message. Open a code for the likely cause, what you can check yourself and when to call service.
