How to rent a lift: step by step
From describing the job to the machine being collected after the work: what to prepare before you call, what the quote includes, how delivery and handover work, what to do after a breakdown and how to end the rental.

Renting a lift (cherry picker, aerial work platform, MEWP) takes seven steps: you describe the job (height, distance, ground, date), send an enquiry by phone or through the form, receive a quote including transport, prepare access, receive the machine on site and work, and when you have finished you report it for collection. A good description of the job at the start saves the most time, because the choice of machine depends on it.
What are the steps of ordering?
- Describe the job to be done. Establish the highest point of work, the distance from where the machine will stand, the type of ground (floor, paving, soil), whether the work is in a hall or outdoors, how many people and how much material will be in the platform, and the date and duration of the work.
- Send an enquiry. Call or fill in the form on the website. Give the site address, a description of the work and the date; on that basis we choose the type and model of machine.
- Receive a quote. The quote covers a specific machine, the rental period and transport. The minimum rental is 1 day; the rate depends on the model and the length of the rental.
- Prepare access and the place of work. Check the gate and the width of the passage, the load-bearing capacity of the ground, the place where the trailer will unload the machine, and overhead obstacles: overhead lines, canopies, branches.
- Receive the machine on site. We organise delivery of the machine, after a service inspection and with a current UDT inspection (UDT is the Polish Office of Technical Inspection). At handover we go over operation and check the condition of the machine.
- Work, and call if it breaks down. The machine is operated by a person holding a UDT qualification certificate, or — if agreed when quoting — by our operator. If something breaks, a mobile service repairs the machine on site or we replace it.
- End the rental. Report the end of the work: we agree a date and organise collection of the machine.
What should the enquiry include so that we choose the right machine?
- The height of the highest point of work: the working height of a machine is the height of the platform floor plus about 2 m. How to calculate it is described in the article how to choose the working height.
- The distance from the wall or obstacle: this decides whether a scissor lift is enough or an articulating boom lift is needed.
- Ground and place of work: a hall floor usually means an electric machine, while soil and an uneven yard mean a rough terrain machine. More in the article electric or diesel lift.
- Platform load: the number of people, tools and material.
- Address, access and date: needed to quote the transport and plan the delivery.
What does the rental quote include?
The quote covers a specific machine, the rental period and transport in both directions. The minimum rental is 1 day, and the rate depends on the model and the length of the rental; what the price depends on is explained in the article how much does it cost to rent a lift. For jobs lasting weeks or months it is worth asking about long-term rental.
How do delivery and handover work?
We organise delivery of the lift, after a service inspection and with a current UDT inspection. Before delivery you need to provide a gate wide enough for the machine, load-bearing ground and room to unload the trailer; we have collected the full list in the article how to prepare a site for a lift delivery. At handover we go over the operation of the machine and check its condition.
Who operates the machine, and what happens if it breaks down?
Operating a mobile elevating work platform requires a UDT qualification certificate. Without a qualified person on site you can take a lift with an operator or train your employees on a UDT course. If the machine breaks down, the mobile service repairs it on site, and where that is impossible we replace the machine.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I order a lift rental?
- Just call or send an enquiry through the form, giving the site address, the height and type of work, the ground and the date. On that basis we choose the machine and prepare a quote including transport, and after you accept it we deliver the lift to the site and collect it when the work is finished.
- What information should I prepare before ordering a lift?
- The most important are: the height of the highest place of work, the distance from the place where the machine can stand, the type of ground, work in a hall or outdoors, the number of people and the weight of material in the platform, the address and access conditions, and the date and expected duration of the work. The more precise the description, the better the machine chosen.
- Will the lift be delivered to the site?
- Yes. RK Rental organises the transport of lifts and delivers machines across Poland, from our base in Brzoza near Bydgoszcz, most often in the Bydgoszcz, Toruń and Poznań area.
- Who can operate a rented lift?
- A mobile elevating work platform can be operated by a person with a UDT qualification certificate. If there is no such person on site, you can rent the machine with an operator or train your employees on a UDT course.
- What should I do if a rented lift breaks down?
- Report the breakdown by phone. The mobile service repairs the machine on the spot at the customer's premises, whether on site, in a hall or in a warehouse, and where repair on the spot is not possible, a quick replacement of the machine is possible.
