What is the Manitou 170 AETJ L used for?
The Manitou 170 AETJ L is an electric aerial work platform with an articulating boom whose main strength is reach: 14.9 m platform height and 9.43 m horizontal outreach. From a single set-up it can cover a wide strip of façade or ceiling, carry the basket over an obstacle next to a wall, or reach installations deep inside a hall when driving right up to the work point is impossible.
The machine works indoors and outdoors. Electric power produces no exhaust fumes, and non-marking tyres leave no marks on floors. Transport dimensions of 6.84 × 1.75 × 1.97 m, especially the low stowed height, make it easier to pass through gates and under beams, but its weight of 6,950 kg means you need to check the load capacity of floor slabs, ramps and underground car parks. The 2WD drive needs a level, hard surface.
When choosing, bear in mind the trade-off: the 200 kg capacity is lower than on many 15-metre machines, so the 170 AETJ L works best for jobs with light equipment, such as inspections, lighting installation, painting or sealing. When the basket needs to carry more material, it is better to go for a cherry picker with a higher capacity, such as the Haulotte HA15 IP (230 kg) or the JLG E450AJ (230 kg), at the cost of outreach.
